Ottimo cibo tradizionale siciliano
Scialati is the most local and authentic restaurant in Taormina. Mr. Antonino, the owner is a typical Sicilian. He is very kind. That is the only restaurant in Taormina that you can have a wonderful homemade food. The drinks and wines are also excellent. I had a very good time in Scialati.
Taormina is over filled with tourist trap restaurants. Luckily, Scialati is a hidden gem that brings a friendly authentic vibe. This restaurant is essentially a one man show with Antonino (no relation to me) taking orders, making drinks, and cooking the food. Because of this, waiting times can be on the longer side. Believe it or not, this made the experience even better. Why? Because as we were waiting, we got to know the other couples that were waiting for their meals. The close proximity of the tables made conversation easy and we ended up having a blast. Once the food arrived, it was plentiful and delicious! We got a half order of chicken and the hake fillet.
Is this the most well run restaurant in Italy? No. Were some food items unavailable? Yes. Is the restaurant the most visually appealing? No. Was the food good? Hell yea! Was the food fairly priced? Yes. Would I go back? Yes!
Don’t go to Scialati expecting a 5 star experience. Its not. Go to Scialati expecting a good meal from a family member. Its not going to be perfect, but with some patience and an open mind it can be a great experience. All in all, it’s refreshing to see something authentic in a place thats so superficial.
Walking past and the smell of roasting food was glorious, so much so we asked for a table. The wife asked for the half chicken and I asked the owner/ chef/ waiter/ sommelier who was all the mentioned what he recommended and he said Lamb. One of the best meals I had in Sicily, everything cooked to perfection, amazing flavours and a great atmosphere. Read some reviews saying the owner can be a pain? We found him to be a lovely bloke who just cooks honest food. This wasn't Michelin star cuisine just great food cooked with love and care. Wish we had found it on our first night!
Wonderful local, traditional Sicilian food lovingly prepared by Chef Antonio!
This Deli also does meals. We were told he only had roast chicken/potatoes or lasagne, so we ordered one of each
The chicken was deemed really good by my OH it was 1/2 a chicken with garlic and rosemary roast spuds and roast onion
Lasagne was piping hot and quite large in comparison to some others we have had
A couple of Messinas each and the total bill wad a very acceptable €32
Only downside is its right kne the roadside so can get a bit fumey if there are cars idling
K where to start. Best food I've had since I've been in Italy no cap. I ordered the half portion of chicken with potatoes after banging out a gym session. Light , tons of herbs and great service my new spot.
We walked past one night and smelled heavenly roasted chicken. We swore to come back before leaving. Admittedly, it's an EXPERIENCE eating in Antonio's dining room. Order some wine, relax, and enjoy some traditional Sicilian music. He warned us the chicken would take 30 minutes to cook and we settled in to enjoy our night. Our chicken was well seasoned with crispy skin. It was THE best meat dinner we ate in 2 weeks in Italy. We loved our last evening in Sicily and had a lot of fun.
Fantastic Italian food experience!!! Super tender organic chicken, fresh muscles, lasagna that is light and has a powerful deep taste. If you want to try real Italian food you gotta come HERE! The final bonus are auper friendly English speaking hosts and an amazing white wine made from black grapes!!! (Etna special)
A small, and delightful shop in a great walk-up location. Great variety of fresh foods. Equally impressive are the very long hours this shop owner puts in....it seemed as though he was always there and with a cheerful greeting for everyone.
